Marcus would later play and travel with the Elementary and Jr. High
Concert Bands, not to mention Marcus was an All-State Football Career
in high school and professional football player in the Arena and Canadian
Football Leagues, after serving in the U.S. Navy for over 10 years.
During his naval career, he spent time supporting the Desert Storm
and North Arabian Sea Missions, 1987-90.
During this time, his love for jazz grew by listening to the likes
of Kirk Whalum, Marion Meadows, Najee, Gerald Albright, Dave Koz,
the late Art Porter & George Howard. Then Marcus began playing
at functions while still serving in the Armed Forces. “I became
truly inspired by receiving correspondence from Dave Koz in 1991 and
a phone call in 1993 from the late George Howard.
After the inspiration of many musicians, it was an owner of a music
store, who asked Marcus if he’s considered playing for the “Lord”.
At that point, those few words touched Marcus’ heart. Inspirational
Jazz also became apart of his genre of choice, but changed his life.
It was a divine appointment, he calls it. Well, soon after those words
spoken into Marcus’ life, that store owner passed away.
.
While attending Graduate School, Marcus met Bruce Allen, a professional
recording artist/co-founder of Allen & Allen/Pastor – The
Church Fellowship (Jacksonville, FL) and two-time Stellar Award Winner
for Inspirational Jazz. Bruce’s encouragement motived Marcus
to stay refine the craft. Over time, Marcus would perform before Rebbie
Jackson (sister of the late World Famous, Michael Jackson) and family
during a weekend in Las Vegas.
Paths would later cross with Mel Holder, Saxophonist & 2010 Stellar
Award Finalist, who is now Marcus’ mentor and producer of his
new CD, coming soon! Marcus has also hired Bob Baldwin, Billboard
Recording Artist/Producer to produce the new project as well.
Some notable events Marcus has performed have been at the 2004 National
Football League Convoy of Hope, with Former-Heavyweight Boxing Champion,
Evander Holyfield and accomplished attorney, Willie Gary were in attendance.
Marcus also performing at the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, opened for
Myles Jaye and Six Flags over Kentucky Kingdom.
Lastly, Marcus is currently busy recording his next CD with Mel Holder
and Bob Baldwin, with a planned release in 2010. To find out more
